Together for a Healthier Tomorrow

A sunset is a thing of universal beauty. It is witnessed every day in every nation on earth. It’s also a reminder of the cyclical rhythm of human life. When the sun is setting in Los Angeles, it is rising in another part of the world. If we think of humanity as a single organism, it is an organism never at rest. Some of us are falling asleep just as others are waking up. The pandemic is a reminder of this deep interconnectedness, showing us that we are all subject to the same forces of nature. But it has also laid bare differences, as some places fare better than others, not least due to access to healthcare.

Cedars-Sinai International Patients Vice President and Medical Director, Heitham Hassoun, MD.

Here at Cedars-Sinai, we are taking the opportunity to learn and to grow. None of us can know exactly how the pandemic will end up changing the world. In the words of New York Yankees legend Yogi Berra, it is difficult to make predictions, especially about the future. But some things are clear.

We are in this together. Everyone has been affected by the coronavirus. Each day, we see images of people wearing masks and making sacrifices around the globe. Those who have suffered a loss can understand each other’s pain across national frontiers. In fact, no matter where we live, everyone will at some point be faced with a health challenge and deserves access to quality care.

As a result of the pandemic, our commitment to working with global partners on solutions for patients everywhere is stronger than ever.

We help more patients if we innovate. As international borders were closed, the number of non-U.S. patients coming to Cedars-Sinai fell by 50%. To help ensure no patient was left behind, we adapted and found innovative ways to deliver care through technology. The pandemic has shown us that video visits, including patient visits and tele-consultancy with physicians around the world, is a significant tool to enhance access to first-rate care.

"We achieve more together than alone."

From supply chains and donations, and from research to coordination of care, looking out for patients works best when institutions work together around the world. No single place is the source of all expertise on all things. Cedars-Sinai International is increasing its work with partners outside the U.S., hosting webinars and launching a range of collaborative projects—including research studies and expanded access to clinical care in Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and beyond.

This way, Cedars-Sinai’s experts can share their knowledge while learning from the experience and insights of their international colleagues.

We are here for you. Once the coronavirus is tamed through vaccines and breakthrough treatments, Cedars-Sinai International will be here for international patients, as we have long been. We will emerge on the other side of this stronger, more global and more innovative than ever.
