This year, Cedars-Sinai has continued its strong pace of participation in international gatherings, enabling physicians to teach and learn from global colleagues and raising the organization’s profile abroad. Medical conferences and trade shows attract large, diverse audiences and offer critical insights into emerging scientific research with wide potential for patient impact.
Dubai was the setting for the 49th Arab Health trade show, a highly anticipated event featuring the latest innovations in medical technology, equipment and services. Held from Jan. 29-Feb. 1, the conference brought together more than 3,300 delegates representing over 190 countries and generated nearly $2.5 billion in business.
Alan Dubovsky, the medical center’s vice president and chief patient experience officer, attended for Cedars-Sinai. In his view, making the trip was a smart investment in advancing healthcare’s future.
“Arab Health is one of the preeminent international healthcare events,” Dubovsky said. “It’s always illuminating to be there, and I walked away with a renewed energy to make healthcare improvements. The conference also gives Cedars-Sinai a tremendous platform for broadening awareness about our groundbreaking work and the ways we can partner to improve global health.”
Between Feb. 14-17, delegates from across the Americas and beyond joined in Guadalajara, Mexico, for the Annual Congress of International Cardiology (CADECI), one of the largest cardiology conferences in Latin America. Roughly 3,000 cardiologists and primary care practitioners from across the region attended in person, with another 2,000 joining virtually.
Jorge Goldberg, MD, senior global consultant for Cedars-Sinai International in Mexico, led Cedars-Sinai’s presence at CADECI. Attending for the first time as a speaker, Aakriti Gupta, MD, a cardiologist at the Smidt Heart Institute at Cedars-Sinai, gave multiple talks on transcatheter mitral valve replacement, transcatheter tricuspid valve replacement and lifetime management of aortic stenosis.
"The conference was a perfect opportunity to showcase the advanced, cutting-edge procedures we perform at Cedars-Sinai," Gupta said. "It was also great for networking and for encouraging referrals from Latin America."
Heitham Hassoun, MD, chief executive, International, at Cedars-Sinai, said that the medical center is extending the reach of its signature quality care through participating in events like Arab Health and CADECI.
"Through our presence at these conferences, we help people access the latest research, most up-to-date medical technology and very best care possible, no matter where they live," he said. "The more Cedars-Sinai participates in these international forums, the better able we are to improve quality of life, both here in our own community and around the world."
