Giving Extends Emergency Care
Dec 06, 2024 Jeremy Deutchman
Across California, the strain on emergency departments continues to grow. In 2021, the state’s emergency departments handled 12.9 million visits, up 7% from 2011. With the dedicated help of exceptional donors, Cedars-Sinai is working diligently to meet the rising tide of need.
This year, a major donation to the Cedars-Sinai Emergency Department came from Todd Morgan and the Todd M. Morgan Family Foundation. His $9 million naming gift is helping to build the department’s capacity to serve an expanding patient population. The Todd M. Morgan Family Foundation Lobby will welcome visitors to the Emergency Department as they arrive at Cedars-Sinai in search of expert, lifesaving care.
“Across Los Angeles, more people are relying on emergency services than ever before,” Morgan said. “Cedars-Sinai’s Emergency Department is a precious resource for our city—one that requires ongoing investment to keep up with the pace of demand.”
The Morgan family’s gift will facilitate the Emergency Department’s current expansion project, which is focused on enhancing access and efficiency as well as enabling more specialty healthcare services in the department. Yet, Sam Torbati, MD—the department’s co-chair and the Levin/Gordon Chair in Emergency Medicine in honor of Joel M. Geiderman, MD—noted that additional philanthropy will be essential to the department’s future success.
“We are so grateful to the generous donors who make our work possible,” he said. “I hope others will join them to help Cedars-Sinai continue delivering the very best in emergency care.”
